Aaron Rodgers could soon make his decision on whether to play his 22nd season in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers
Rodgers signed a one-year deal last June with the franchise
If he stays, Rodgers would be reunited with coach Mike McCarthy; the two won a Super Bowl together in Green Bay
The Pittsburgh Steelers are leaving open the possibility that Aaron Rodgers may return to the team.
The four-time NFL MVP, who signed a one-year, $13.65 million contract last June, is eyeing mid-March for making his decision on whether to re-sign with the team, according to Steelers general manager Omar Khan.
"I think the circumstances are a little different, but just conversations we've had, I don't think either side wants to have this drag on like it did last year," Khan said on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, according to NFL.com.
He continued, "The door's open to have Aaron back. I've had conversations with him.”
If Rodgers opts to play his 22nd season in the league with the Steelers, he would do so with a new coach who’s not so new to him.

Now, the Pittsburgh native is returning to the area after he was hired as Mike Tomlin’s successor.
Both McCarthy and the front office are seemingly on board with Rodgers as signal-caller for the upcoming season.
"I spoke to him last week. Mike McCarthy has spoke to him,” Khan said. “He knows how we feel about him. Right now, we're proceeding. ... He's a free agent, and he's not on the roster, but he knows how we feel about him."
Rodgers’ 21st season in the NFL came to an end last month after the Steelers lost to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card playoff game, 30-6, on Jan. 12.

After the loss, Rodgers shot down speculation about his future.“I’m not going to make any emotional decisions at this point,” he said. “Obviously it was such a fun year, a lot of adversity but a lot of fun … been a great year overall in my life this last year, and this is a really good part of that, coming here and being a part of this team.”
