There are ā€œbreakout roles,ā€ and then there’s making a starring turn in your first-ever movie role in the single most Oscar-nominated film of all time. For actor Miles Caton, it’s been the latter. The newcomer has been making waves all season for his turn as Sammie, a preacher’s son who can’t resist the draw of playing the blues—and winds up in way over his head—in Sinners, and today he’s nominated for a Rising Star award at the BAFTAs.

Caton clearly took a cue from the film for his red carpet moment, turning up at the event in a charcoal grey pinstripe suit by Louis Vuitton that would surely get a nod of approval from Smoke and Stack, the blues club running twins played by Michael B. Jordan. The single-breasted jacket brought classic style, paired with a crisp white shirt and a tie in a coordinating dark grey stripe. Meanwhile, the wider leg, pleat-front trousers gave the look a hint of 1920s zoot-suit style and patent leather shoes that brought a hint of flash to the otherwise pared-back ensemble.

Sinners picked up a record-breaking 16 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay as well as Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan’s dual roles as Smoke and Stack, Best Supporting Actress for Wunmi Mosaku, and Best Supporting Actor for Delroy Lindo. Both Jordan and Mosaku are in competition tonight in their categories at the BAFTAs.

While Caton isn’t competing individually at the Oscars, he does feature on the song for ā€œI Lied to You,ā€ which is a potential front-runner for the Best Original Song category.
