Nobody Dumps My Daughter was released as part of Lifetime's "Ripped from the Headlines" series of movies in October 2024.

The plot of Nobody Dumps My Daughter appears to be based on Cisneros, a woman who orchestrated the killing of Fischer after he broke up with her daughter, Cristina.
Cisneros offered Fischer $500 to get back together with her daughter, per The New York Times. But when he refused, Cisneros sought out a fortune teller, Maria Mercedes Martinez, to cast a spell on him.
Martinez told Cisneros she couldn't cast a spell, so Cisneros decided to have Fischer murdered instead.

Cisneros gave $3,000 to Martinez, who passed it and a picture of Fischer to one of her clients, Daniel Orlando Garza, according to The New York Times and myRGV.com.
In February 1993, Garza hired two hitmen, Israel Olivares and Heriberto Pizana, per the U.S. Department of Justice. They had a history of car theft and drug smuggling.

A few weeks later, on March 3, 1993, they drove by Fischer's home at 7 a.m. There, they saw the teenager in his family's driveway and shot him.
After the murder, Olivares and Pizana fled to Mexico, The New York Times reported.
During the trial, Garza testified that he thought the men would only hurt Fischer, not shoot him to death.

Yes, Cisneros and Martinez were arrested in April 1993, according to The New Yorker.
Garza cooperated with authorities, and agreed to wear a wire while calling and telling Martinez the hitmen wanted more money. Per the Justice Department, Martinez was arrested, and she agreed to meet with Cisneros, who was also arrested while giving Martinez money.
In March 1994, Cisneros was found guilty of murdering Fischer. She was sentenced to life in prison, as was Garza. According to The New York Times, Martinez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, and received a prison sentence of 20 years.
Cisneros' conviction was overturned due to a "prosecutor's error" in March 1996, per The New York Times.
According to myRGV.com, two years later, Cisneros was arrested again in relation to the murder-for-hire case, and was put on trial in federal court. She was found guilty on one count of use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder-for-hire and sentenced to life in prison.
In 2008, Cisneros, who was then 70, lost her appeal for a retrial, Chron reported in June 2025.

The two hitmen who killed Fischer were never put on trial, according to The New York Times.
