**This article contains spoilers from *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* season 1 finale, "The Morrow."**
*A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* wraps up its acclaimed first season with a major book-to-screen addition.
Prince Aegon "Egg" Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell) catches up to his pal Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) to officially join him on his cross-country adventures through Westeros as his squire. The triumphant moment is undercut with a brief ending scene involving Prince Maekar (Sam Spruell), Egg's dad and the new heir to the Iron Throne following the death of Baelor.
Maekar falls into a panic once he realizes that his son isn't with the royal convoy, confirming that Egg ran off with Dunk against his father's wishes. This isn't a scene from the original Dunk and Egg novellas, penned by *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* co-creator and author George R. R. Martin.
"I would say we are attempting to be as compartmentalized as possible," Ira Parker, the series showrunner and co-creator, tells **. "That's the nature of the novellas. It's not that there are uncertain strings that are pulled all the way through, but every season Dunk and Egg are in a new place, we set up a story, we tell you the story, and we close out the story. So this is a *little* bit of a thread, but I don't want to start getting into two big ripple effects that change the nature of the story we're allowed to tell in [season] 2 that make it too big. It will be addressed, but hopefully it will not detract from anyone's enjoyment of 'The Sworn Sword.'"

*A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* season 1 adapted the main events of Martin's "The Hedge Knight," the first of the novellas he penned about Dunk and Egg. Season 2, now in production in Belfast, Northern Ireland, adapts the second tale, "The Sworn Sword." Future seasons, which haven't formally been green lit, would then adapt the third published novella, "The Mystery Knight," as well as a series of unpublished stories Martin gave to Parker behind the scenes.
"I have pitched George my ending, if we get all the way to the end of all of his stories that he's done," Parker teases. "And he hasn't told me no yet out of hand. So who knows?"

The showrunner feels Dunk and Egg's entire life stories would make for a great TV series. "I'm not sure the end of the third novella is really a stopping place for a series," he adds. "It's certainly a stopping place because that is the last [one]. And I can wrap my head around it if that is the end, but there's a lot of hope and I think these guys have a lot to say in the nature of the relationship and how it changes over the course of a life. So we'll see where it goes."
Has Parker already subtly alluded to some of those future storylines in season 1? Fans took particular note of a certain hooded fortune teller who brushed up against Egg at the Ashford tourney and relayed a prophesy about the young prince becoming king, only to one day die in "a hot fire" with worms feeding on his ashes and everyone rejoicing.
Some eagle-eyed observers even shared close-up screen grabs of this seer, showing her to have different colored eyes.

"I paid extremely close attention to what we were showing," Parker says, playing coy. "Like, I was doing all that zooming in. Maybe there was more to show, but that's what we went with. One day I would be very happy to discuss what my intentions are, even though it will totally probably have completely changed [by then] — or maybe we suck and season 2 is our last season. It would be nice to be able to revisit little things like this."

In terms of season 2 and material from "The Sworn Sword," Parker declines to say much of anything, if only because he's not sure yet what he's been sanctioned to say by the powers that be at HBO. He's busy making it as we speak.
"It's really interesting seeing reactions to the work that we've done so far," he offers as a final thought. "But at the end of the day, that's the enjoyment of being a fan. I have no agenda in this, you know? I wanna tell good stories about these characters that I love, and I want it to be fun. That's the goal."
All episodes of *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* season 1 are now streaming on HBO Max. Season 2 is set to premiere in 2027.
